Just about 2 weeks ago, Hurricane Matthew worked his way up The Eastern side of the United States starting with Florida. We prepared as well as we knew how. We had our hurricane shutters up, a generator and fuel in the ready, and lots of water, batteries, and canned food. We took all the swings off of the swing set and detached the slide. We moved all of our unsecured outdoor toys and furniture to the garage, and made room for both cars as well, which we have never been able to do before. I guess it just goes to show what you can accomplish with the correct motivation. We trimmed the trees and stored the palm fronds in the garage to stop them from becoming projectiles in a category 4 hurricane. We helped neighbors and friends with remaining time left before go time and then we hunkered down and waited. The kids slept like logs through the whole storm. Reid and I pretty much laid awake listening to the wind batter the house. The next day, we broke out the special coloring books I got for the kids, and some of the special treats we got to make it more fun and as unscary as possible. The kids were pretty disappointed that we didn't lose power after the whole thing was over, so we played games with the lanterns on and the lights out the next night. We were so grateful that no trees came down next to us, that we didn't lose power or water, and that everyone we knew was safe. And as always, after the storm, comes the rainbow.

Last Sunday and this past Saturday were designated storm clean-up days organized by our church. On Sunday, we all put on work clothes and had a short church service, followed by cleaning up our area. This past Saturday all the abled bodies went down to Daytona Beach, which was hit much harder than us, and helped clean up. Reid went to go help. I stayed back with the kids and we went to the Library's annual Halloween event: Truck or Treat. Cool cars and truck from the city and area come display their vehicles to the kids and give them a handout of some sort. There are also some carnival type games in the library. Isaac and Esther dressed in their minion costumes. They loved it.
