Five at Last
Isaac has been watching all of his friends from school and church turn 5 years old before him. He was so proud of himself and kept telling me he could now reach higher on shelves and do more things now that he was 5. As a rite of passage, he also got his first sets of Legos, and his first nerf guns. His dad was giddy with excitement to give them to him, and I'll never forget the sound of Reid's voice echoing through the house saying, "That's right! Run down the stairs like the chickens you are!" as he, Isaac, and Isaac's friend Chloe, had a nerf gun war. There was a lot of giggling and I have already told Isaac that I am confiscating every stray bullet I have to pick up. It will be awhile before Isaac misses them, though, because his dad bought him 200 bullets to make sure his guns were well stocked.
For Isaac's birthday party, we took him and his little friends bowling. We intended to pay for all of the children, but as we got in, the worker behind the desk said, "have you signed up for kids bowl free?" So within 30 seconds there were at least six parents all staring at their smart phones signing up their kids for the summer's free bowling program. I laughed to myself as I watched them all in a line staring at their phones. It did save us a bit of money, though.
The kids had a good time bowling, but were done bowling before we anticipated. We packed them all up in 4 separate vehicles and drove them to our house for pizza, cake & icecream and presents. It was a bit wild, but it worked.
Isaac's birthday cake this year was batman themed. It was my first attempt at using fondant. It worked out okay. I had to laugh though, because last year Isaac wanted a pink cake, and Reid nixed that. He ended up with a minion cake. This year he went with batman, but he chose strawberry flavored cake, so it was pink on the inside.
All in all, it was a great, crazy day. It's crazy to think my baby boy is already 5.
