It's Great to be Eight!

This week was the week of celebrating Isaac.  First, Grandpa and Grandma Carroll came to visit.  They arrived on Monday.
They came for a whole week just for Isaac.

Tuesday was Isaac's birthday.  He is 8 years old now.  That kind of blows my mind.  We kept his birthday a bit low key, but we did allow him to open up one present--his roller blades.  We also couldn't help but to have at least a cupcake after dinner.  He also did the customary choosing whatever breakfast he wanted and whatever dinner he wanted.  He opted for cinnamon rolls and bacon for breakfast, and Papa John's pizza for dinner.  I may have also forgotten to have him do his chores that day.

On Thursday, we were supposed to go to deep sea fishing, but the weather has been gloomy and rainy all week, so we ended up going to the Navy Seal museum instead.  The kids were bored pretty fast of the inside of the museum, so during a rain brake we went outside and tried out the Navy Seal training ground.

On Friday, we had Isaac's birthday party.  Isaac asked for an escape room, and we determined to do a Harry Potter theme.  It took more work than I was ready to do, but it was pretty cute to watch the little boys trying to figure out the puzzles.

The boys wave their wands over the Marauder's Map and say "I solemnly swear I am up to no good."
Isaac figures out the combination to the first locked box.
Uncle Charley comes in and helps the boys read the rune rocks.

The boys are successful and figure out the code to the last lock box, which is where the cake and presents are.

Saturday was an even more special day.  Eight is an important age in our religion, because it is when a child is old enough to decide for himself whether or not he wants to follow Christ and be baptized.  We are proud to say that Isaac has made that commitment.

Isaac and his dad after the baptism.
Due to Covid-19, we were only allowed to have 10 people there.  Isaac was thrilled when his best buddy Silas and his mom showed up. Other than those honored guests, it was just family.
Back row: Esther, Grandpa Carroll, Grandma Carroll, Uncle Charley, Silas's mom.
Front Row: Jaydon, Stefani, Reid, Isaac, Silas.
After the baptism, we went to take some family pictures.  After the little beauty that is this first picture, we discovered that Esther was trying to be a kitty.  So we told her she messed the picture up, which sent her into defiant and upset mode, and she threw herself on a chair and wouldn't pose for a new picture.

Fast forward about 5 minutes later of me trying to convince her it was okay and we weren't mad, and dad came back and told her we would all pose as kitties if she took a nice picture first.  Those were the magic words. We got the picture.

Then we got the kitty photo, and harmony was restored in our family.

It was a wild week, and we are happy to get it done. Congratulations Isaac!
