Summer Starters 2025

The summer has arrived and we kicked off the summer by going to the temple in Fort Lauderdale and then snorkeling and biking.  It was a short but sweet trip.  









Updates on the kids:
*Isaac passed 7th grade at West Shore Jr/Sr High School (which is a nationally renowned school) with As and Bs.  He passed his mom's math class with an A.  He will now be doing summer camps--mostly helping him with his soccer skills. He enjoys screen time, sugar, and fishing.  

*Esther passed 5th grade and still loves lizards.  She calls herself "lizard leader" and is either catching lizards and critters, or making books and drawings about them.  She is slowly breaking out of her shell and was able to give a talk in church and teach a lesson to the 5 young women that come to church on Sunday.  

*Jaydon came dangerously close to being held back in school this year, but was able to squeak by this school year.  He now has a tutor that works hard with him to get him caught up.  She may be the reason he passed this year.  He is very active and is hard to keep up with.  He enjoys biking and playing "Sorry" with his family.  If he can ever get his mom to play kickball with him, he enjoys that too. 

FYI...If there is anything you want me to talk about on this blog that you're wondering about, please let me know.  I often am not sure what would be the most meaningful to you.

Carroll Family Reunion--Utah 2024 Edition

This year for my family reunion, we went to Utah.  Day 1 was "This is the Place" Monument.  Then we ended up at a park, singing happy birthday to my brother, Tim, and hanging out at the Airbnb.  There were people all over the place.  Two of my siblings have grandkids now, and 2 more have children who are married or are getting married.  So there are people of all ages at my family reunions.  Isaac's closest cousins are my brother Tim's and my sister Kati's kids.  At first he felt a little lost, but found cousins to hang out with finally.  Esther palled around with Tim's youngest daughter, and Jaydon with anyone who would play with him.  He didn't seem too bothered by any age gaps.  We spent two nights at each place we stopped, and by the time we left Utah, I was totally ready to be in the same bed for at least a month.  I don't get that though, because the Archibald reunion is coming up at the end of July.  From L-R.  Isaa...

Not your typical Christmas Day

Christmas tree at Calvary Chapel.  Our neighbors always invite us to go to a special Christmas Eve Service. Christmas 2016 was unique in 2 ways:  1, it was on a Sunday, and 2, the kids didn't open presents until after 3:30 PM.  The day started off with the kids getting excited about the fact that their sugar loaded breakfast was in their stockings.  They got juice in character shaped bottles; Isaac got Darth Vader and Esther got Miss Piggy.  Then they got individual serving of lucky charms.  Unsurprisingly, they ate the marshmallows and left the rest.  They also got the standard canister of Pringles and gummy bears.   After that, we had to rush to get ready for church. No time for presents.  After church, we came home and had just enough time to make and eat a delicious brunch, which included our favorite raspberry cream cheese muffins.  Then we got in the car to go to the hospital to sing Christmas carols to the sick.  Again...

Bentonville, AK

The first summer vacation of 2024 was thus: biking in Bentonville, AK.  Except that Bentonville got hit by a series of tornadoes right before we got there...and most of the biking trails were closed.  So we had to invent a few other things to do besides biking.  Here are a few of them: This is a chapel built as a memorial for Mildred B. Cooper.  It is super pretty there.  Right after this picture was taken, we got kicked out so that a wedding party could start practicing for the wedding. The Crystal Bridges Museum of Art was another place we ended up visiting.  We got into their special exhibit for free because of the tornadoes.
