Thanksgiving & Esther's 3rd Birthday

Thanksgiving this year was a success.  Reid successfully smoked a delicious turkey, and it is all gone already.  For the first time in 5 years, Reid's family didn't come to celebrate Thanksgiving with us.  We missed them, but the day was still good.  We had a quiet Thanksgiving dinner at a friend's house.  We went to the park afterwards. Esther played on the playground equipment, and I got to hold a baby. Isaac and Reid played baseball.  Somehow, the baseball ended up in a fenced tennis court that was locked.  So then I felt double lucky when I got to hand our friend's baby to Reid and climb the fence to get the ball.  Then the mosquitos came calling, so we went back and had pie.  The kids fell asleep in the car on the way home.  I think the kids had fun with their friends and we definitely ate well.

The day after Thanksgiving was Esther's 3rd Birthday.  It's crazy to think that 3 years have already passed since this little sassy pants entered our lives.

Three months ago, I asked Esther what she wanted for her birthday.  We discussed the possibility of seeing a movie.  Ever since then, Esther has been pointing at the movie theater every time we would pass it and say, "It's my birthday!" So for her birthday, we went to see Disney's new Moana. Now when we pass the theater Esther says, "That was my birthday!"  The excitement that bubbles naturally from a 3 year old, is in my opinion, like drinking from the fountain of youth.  It helps to offset the tantrums that also accompany that age.

Anyway, we did a quiet birthday, only inviting 3 families to come and eat cake with us.  Each family was specifically requested by Esther.  She also made sure I knew that she wanted Isaac at her birthday party, because he was her friend.  That sure made this mama proud!

Esther was showered with gifts, which included a new doll and doll clothes, diapers for her doll, a doll stroller, and the board game Candyland.  She did not want to stop playing with her toys to come eat cake, so I felt like we got the right presents for her.  For her cake, she picked out "sprinkle cake" and chocolate ice cream.  After that, the kids pretty much just ran around screaming while the adults tried to talk over the noise.  Esther seemed as happy as if we had crowned her queen for a day.  Now onto potty training.
